Homeworld 3 , the sequel to the legendary RTS masterpiece Homeworld, received a large number of negative reviews after its release, and its rating on Steam was even "mostly negative". From 10,000 people online at its peak, to only dozens of people playing online in the past few months, the developers cut off the expected long-term game plan and decided that the most recent update will be the last.

The developers mentioned the update in a post on the series' official website and said goodbye to players. The developers confirmed that no new content will be produced for the game and that the technical state will be maintained by its publisher Gearbox. They also assured that the network mode and the internal mod browser will continue to remain active.

The series began in 1999, and it wasn't until a few years later in 2003 that Relic Entertainment got a sequel under Sierra's publishing. However, three years ago, Barking Dog Studios released the standalone expansion pack Homeworld: Cataclysm. Since then, there has been no orthodox sequel. Until 2015, Blackbird Interactive released Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak, and then they started working on Homeworld 3.
